Filmmakers/actors Jay and Mark Duplass visited the Film Society of Lincoln Center prior to the Sundance Film Festival to share and discuss their new HBO series, Togetherness, and the brothers are the focus of this week's edition of the Film Society of Lincoln Center's weekly podcast series, The Close-Up.
Jay and Mark Duplass are a tour de force duo on both the big and small screen. The siblings, who made a splash with their 2005 micro-budget feature The Puffy Chair at Sundance, have since returned multiple times, and are currently in Park City with three film projects they're producing, as well as selling an animated TV series in addition to promoting Togetherness, which also stars Mark Duplass.

Before sitting down for a chat with the Film Society's Brian Brooks and an audience Q&A, attendees watched the first two episodes of Togetherness titled "Family Day" and "Handcuffs." The show blends laughter and pathos, following four adults nearing 40 who find themselves suddenly living under the same roof. The foursome engage in a tragically comedic struggle to follow their personal dreams while still remaining good friends, siblings, and spouses to each other.
In addition to Mark Duplass, the half-hour series that airs Sunday nights also stars Melanie Lynskey, Steve Zissis, and Amanda Peet.
On the big screen, Jay and Mark have directed a number of films together including Baghead, Cyrus, and Jeff, Who Lives at Home. Mark Duplass has also worked extensively in front of the camera both on their films as well as others including Humpday, Your Sister's Sister, the Oscar-winning Zero Dark Thirty, among others.
Jay Duplass has also forayed into acting. He is currently starring in the Amazon series Transparent, which won the Golden Globe for best comedy or musical television series earlier this month.
The discussion with Jay and Mark Duplass took place as part of the Film Society's year-round Free Talks series sponsored by HBO. If you would like to attend a future event, check back at filmlinc.com for updated information on upcoming Free Talks events with filmmakers, actors, and more.
