On today’s episode of our podcast, you’ll hear an HBO Directors Dialogue with Robert Zemeckis from 2012. His new film, The Walk, will have its world premiere on Opening Night of the 53rd New York Film Festival on September 26. At the 50th New York Film Festival, Robert Zemeckis premiered his last feature, Flight, which starred Denzel Washington as an alcoholic airline pilot. That film went on to receive Academy Award nominations for best screenplay and lead performance. During the festival, Zemeckis joined Director of Programming Richard Peña on stage for a wide-ranging discussion. In addition to Flight, their conversation spanned the director’s four-decade career, from his ’80s blockbusters like Back to the Future and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, to his ventures into CGI animation with films like A Christmas Carol and The Polar Express.

The 53rd New York Film Festival continues the tradition of insightful conversations with filmmakers, including our On Cinema masterclass with Hou Hsiao-Hsien, HBO Directors Dialogues with Todd Haynes, Michael Moore, and Jia Zhangke, and free NYFF Live talks everyday at 7pm in our Amphitheater.
