Our evening with Pierre Lhomme coincided with the release of a 50th anniversary restoration of Le Joli Mai, which was co-directed by Lhomme and Chris Marker. The event featured a screening of Jean-Pierre Melville’s Army of Shadows, which Lhomme lensed, followed by a conversation moderated by Film Society Director of Programming Dennis Lim. In it, Lhomme discussed his collaborations with such giants of French cinema as Marker, Melville, and Robert Bresson; his memories of making Army of Shadows; and his perspective on the French New Wave.
